Looks like sweet little Abigail was happy to be born VBAC!
Seriously, Abigail was a dream to photograph. No shushing or waiting for her to sleep. She gave me plenty of smiles.
These are just a few of my favorites...I will probably post more in the next day or two.
Doesn't she look like a glow worm? Only cuter?
I have a few of her with her siblings as well, but haven't had a chance to process them yet.
To be continued...
I don't usually write very much about the births I attend. I feel like it is my job to capture the moments in photographs, not in words. I'm going to break my little rule here, however, because Tami is a good friend of mine and I loved sharing her birth with her.
After two c-sections, Tami decided she just wasn't up to recovering from surgery while caring for her two other children.
After doing her research, she found she would have to give birth down in Seattle, nearly two hours away from us. She asked our friend, Carolynn, to be her doula (Carolynn was great, by the way, and I highly recommend her if you are looking for a doula).
I wouldn't take a client deliving in Seattle, but was happy to be invited to Tami's birth.
Tami's labor was the most difficult I have ever seen. It lasted well over 3o hours. Her baby was happy and doing well the whole time, and never once did Tami lose sight of her goal.
Carolynn and I arrived about 9 pm. I knew I'd be away from Apollo for the night, but figured I'd be home in the morning. By midmorning, when it was obvious the birth wasn't imminent, I asked Emily Weaver Brown to bring me her breast pump. She was kind enough to load up her two children to bring it to me.
I pumped, and by the time Chuck got off work that evening, birth still wasn't close. He loaded up Avi, Tucker and Apollo and drove all the way to Seattle so I could nurse him. I nursed Apollo and sent Chuck home with the milk I had pumped. Never in a million years would I have planned to be away from Apollo for two nights, but it worked. He survived and didn't seem any worse for the wear.
Because the baby passed meconium, she had to be handed over to the pediatricians immediately. They suctioned her and she was declared find and handed to Tami.
The sweet reward of her labor...cuddling skin to skin with her sweet little baby.
Carolynn gave the baby girl her first bath (she wasn't named when I left, I still haven't heard what they decided on...)
I'd say this VBAC was a shining sucess.
