Newborn Photography
Newborns are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. We’ve all seen those breathtaking photos of newborn babies. I hope to provide those photos for you of your baby. Here are a few things that you can do to help me achieve this look.
- Have the baby well fed when I arrive. Even if you are a strict scheduler, a variation from routine will help us achieve better images. I suggest you nurse (or bottle feed) baby in nothing but a diaper, wrapped in a receiving blanket. That way I can quickly slip off the blanket and diaper without disturbing the baby.
- Have the room warm. Crank the heat, fire up the woodstove, etc. The baby will sleep much better this way. Remember, the baby will be naked much of the shoot, so the room needs to be uncomfortably warm.
3. You can expect the session to take anywhere from 1-3 hours, depending on the circumstances.
- Relax and have fun. I’ve had eleven babies myself. I know how difficult the first few days can be, and I know how unpredictable babies are. Sleeping babies make wonderful models, but you’d be amazed at how many photos are taken in between bouts of fussing.
5. The best images are achieved on very young babies. They are at their most sleepy/flexible at under 10 days. Please call as soon as possible after the baby is born to set a time for photos.
Thank you so much for choosing me to photograph your baby. I look forward to our time together.
